Love

Valentine's is all about love and gushy feelings and gooey sentiment. So in honor of February 14th, instead of researching the history of the holiday and how much Hallmark makes in revenue, I'll say a few words about love. Love is often glamorized by people who don't know, haven't experienced, or forgot what love is. Real love, at least in my experience, is all consuming, often drowning us in a flood of emotions the size of a tsunami. Eventually the waters subside, leaving a sediment of reality in it's wake. Those leftovers are love. True love runs the whole gamut of emotions, including those we'd rather forget. True love is un-dolled up by card makers and chocolatiers; it's raw, naked, and unashamed. It is accepting the beautiful highs and ugly lows that make us who we are. Love is life, and without love, life wouldn't be worth living. So this Valentine's day, leave the sentiment at the store and embrace true love. Because once the infatuation wears off, love is all you've got left.
